You won’t believe what I’ve just done! My friend Kwok said he was going to walk over hot coals for Post Pals and asked if I’d do it with him. It sounded really scary but also like a big adventure so I said yes! We had matching t-shirts made with the Post Pals logo on and asked lots of people for sponsorship. Soon the big day arrived. An instructor gave us a long lesson on how to do it. He explained that this would be very dangerous to do on our own but it was OK here with the instructor and firefighter looking after us.
Kwok and I were still really nervous though! We were the last to go and watched everyone else go across. My heart was beating faster and faster as our time came nearer. The instructor shouted out the number of steps each person took: “3 steps, 4 steps...”
The big moment came and we stood at the edge of the coals. I looked at Kwok and said “Come on, we can do it”, and we took the first step onto the hot coals!
On the first step I didn’t feel very much; the second step felt warm; the third step felt as if I’d been pricked by a rose thorn; the fourth step was hot; the fifth step was very hot; on the sixth step Kwok said “We can do this Dottie, even though our feet feel as if they’re on fire”; and the seventh step was the last – we had done the most steps of the day! I couldn’t believe that we’d reached the other side. We rushed across to the buckets of water laid out ready for us and dunked our feet in them.
We stayed in the water for a little while to let our feet cool down – it felt wonderful! Our feet were black from the coals and Kwok’s had lots of little blisters, but he said it was worth it. Kwok and I gave each other a big hug – we had done it!
Afterwards we counted up all our sponsorship money – we had raised over £1000! We wrote out a special cheque and presented it to my friend Ella on behalf of Post Pals.
It was a lovely end to our adventure!
With woofs and spots,
Dottie
