At the Fire Station

Today was ‘Take your puppy to work day’ so I went to work with Sarah’s dad Mark – at the fire station! They said I could be a firefighter for the day. I was the first puppy firefighter they’d ever had so I knew I had to do a good job.

First I sat by the console upstairs and Mark showed me where we waited for the shout to come through saying someone needed rescuing from a fire. He said that as it was quiet at the moment we’d have a practice run. All the bells went off really loudly and made me jump! I read the print out to see where the fire was and then ran over to the fireman’s pole. We had to go down the pole as it was quicker than going down the stairs. It looked a very long way down from the top!

I gulped nervously and then went for it, and slid really fast all the way down! So much fun that I wanted to do it again, but we had to get to the fire engine. It was huge and red and gleaming. I put on my smart firefighter’s boots – I think they fitted me very well!

Mark said I’d done the drill in double-quick time, which would have been really important if we’d been getting to a real fire. I was pleased I’d done well! Next Mark showed me round the fire engine. I couldn’t believe how enormous it was, and how many different gadgets were hidden inside it. I climbed all the way up the ladder at the back to look at the other ladders kept on the roof, and looked at the really strong pressure hose for putting out fires. I wanted to try it and hose everyone down but for some reason Mark didn’t trust me with it!

Lastly I sat in the cab and pretended to drive the engine. I turned the wheel and said Nee Naw NEE NAW as I imagined going to put out a fire.

As we were leaving, the station watch gave me some stickers and tattoos to remember my day. They gave me enough to give to all my friends.

With love and spots
